Dr. Shahin Dabestani, DMD, wants you to enjoy a beautiful, youthful smile that you are proud to share with those around you.

Unfortunately, if you have cosmetically compromised teeth, you may feel embarrassed about your grin.

Even small blemishes can affect your overall appearance and your self-esteem. Porcelain veneers provide a quick, minimally discomforting way to enhance your smile.

Dr. Dabestani will carefully design your veneers, often using CEREC® imaging to create the thin porcelain shells in one day. Then he will attach the veneers, concealing surface flaws and reshaping your teeth.

In many cases, he can also use CEREC® to craft same-day dental crowns. Though crowns are typically considered a restorative option, they can also enhance the look of your smile.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

A porcelain veneer consists of a very thin layer of porcelain that the doctor custom designs to fit your smile. In most cases, he will need to remove a small layer of tooth enamel so your veneer does not look too bulky or thick.

Dr. Dabestani can design your veneers to match the exact color and shape of your natural teeth. The doctor will attach porcelain veneers to the front of your teeth. Once in place, they will cover up cosmetic flaws.

They can also reshape your teeth, and, in some cases, hide minor orthodontic tissues. Veneers offer stunning and diverse results. Among other things, they can address:

  • Misshapen or eroded teeth – Teeth wear down with age, but some patients may notice their teeth eroding due to other issues. The biggest cause of worn teeth, bruxism, or teeth grinding, can cause serious damage if left untreated. The doctor can use veneers to cover the worn teeth, but the patient will need to talk to the doctor about a night guard to prevent continued grinding that will ultimately lead to more damage.
  • Slightly crooked, or moderately rotated teeth – Dr. Dabestani can use veneers to give uneven teeth a feeling of symmetry, and can cover mildly crooked or misaligned teeth with veneers to improve appearance and function. For more severe cases of crooked or misaligned teeth, the doctor may recommend orthodontic treatment.
  • Stains, especially dark, internal discoloration – While whitening treatments will eliminate most stains, some patients may have especially stubborn stains on their teeth or suffer from intrinsic stains, which emanate from the inside of the tooth and respond poorly to conventional whitening treatments. Veneers can cover these areas of discoloration, keeping your smile looking clean and white.
  • Chipped teeth – If a patient bites into something hard, or gets hit in the face, he may end up with a chipped tooth. Dr. Dabestani can place veneers over chipped teeth, improving their appearance and adding strength.
  • Small gaps in your smile – Dr. Dabestani can design your veneers so that they give your teeth a wider appearance, effectively filling in any gaps you may have between your teeth.

Once the doctor places your veneers, you will find it virtually impossible to see where your natural tooth ends and the veneer begins.

The porcelain used to create your veneers has a similar translucency and texture as your natural teeth, and mimics their structure and reflective properties, creating a very natural appearance.

As a restorative material, porcelain provides great resistance to staining from wine, colas, and tobacco. Porcelain also provides strength and security, and with proper care, your veneers will last 20 years or longer.

Are You a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

If you struggle with any of the problems listed above, Dr. Dabestani will conduct a thorough assessment to determine if veneers are right for you.

Along with your cosmetic goals, he will consider the overall health of your teeth. If you have untreated decay or gum disease, you may not be a candidate for veneers.

After appropriate treatment, Dr. Dabestani will reevaluate your candidacy. Dental erosion can also impact your ability to receive veneers. Though Dr. Dabestani offers conservative care, he will still need to reshape your teeth before placement.

You must have enough dental enamel to undergo this process. If your dentist determines that veneers are not right for you, he will recommend an alternative treatment.

Conservative Treatment for Porcelain Veneers

As stated above, Dr. Dabestani will trim off a small amount of enamel in preparation for veneers placement.

However, he offers a minimal prep procedure and will remove much less tissue than other practitioners. This approach can guarantee optimal cosmetic results.

It can also provide better retention so that your minimal-prep veneers are much less likely to come off than traditional veneers.

After prepping your teeth, Dr. Dabestani will take detailed impressions. These models will ensure that your veneers fit securely and naturally over your teeth.

When the veneers are finished, Dr. Dabestani will treat your teeth with a mild chemical solution. This step will roughen the surface of your teeth so that the veneers can bond with your dental enamel more securely.

After making sure that the porcelain fits properly, he will use composite resin to attach it to your teeth.

Advanced Technology for Same-Day Cosmetic Surgery

We work with an outstanding lab, where ceramists will create beautifully lifelike veneers. However, in many cases, Dr. Dabestani can create your veneers using state-of-the-art CEREC® technology.

First, he will take 3-D digital scans of your teeth. With innovative software, he can manipulate these images to design your veneers on a chairside computer. You will be able to watch the entire process, and you can help plan your treatment to meet your particular goals.

After you are both satisfied with the designs, they will feed into our milling machine. The device will then generate custom veneers, often an hour or less. CEREC® uses a sophisticated form of porcelain that is almost as strong as metal.

It is available in an array of natural shades, and it sparkles much like regular tooth enamel. Thanks to CEREC®, you can have a brand new smile after just one dental appointment.

Dr. Dabestani can also use CEREC® to create same-day dental crowns. Crowns are much larger than veneers. Dentists often use them to repair structurally damaged teeth.

They require significantly more prep work, so Dr. Dabestani will only recommend them when appropriate. However, if you struggle with severe blemishes, dramatic internal stains, or a cracked tooth, a crown may be the right option.

After reshaping your tooth and removing damaged tissue, Dr. Dabestani will take digital images. Then the CEREC® machine can fabricate a durable and lifelike crown in about two hours.

Caring for Your Veneers

You will care for your veneers the same as you do your natural teeth. Continue to brush twice daily, and floss at least once a day.

Your new veneers will resist most stains, so you will need to practice vigilance with your brushing habits, to ensure your teeth all remain the same shade of white.

Attending regular cleanings and checkups every six months will allow Dr. Dabestani to monitor your veneers and make sure they continue to function properly. With proper care and maintenance, your veneers will last over two decades.
