At Desert Palm Dentistry, we are proud to offer Invisalign as an alternative to traditional braces. Wearing orthodontic braces used to mean enduring a mouthful of metal brackets and wires, rubber bands that were hard to use and uncomfortable, and painful adjustment visits to the orthodontist once a month. Invisalign changed all of that with clear, removable orthodontic aligners that do the same work as metal braces. Dr. Shahin Dabestani invites you to explore this convenient, non-invasive, inconspicuous alternative to traditional braces.
Call our dental office in Glendale at (623) 915-9700 or in Phoenix at (602) 978-1932 and scheduling a consultation and we will introduce you to Invisalign.
How Invisalign Works
Invisalign replaces metal orthodontic braces with sets of clear, comfortable acrylic aligners that gently shift the teeth into proper alignment, without the need for wires, brackets, or rubber bands. Invisalign treatment typically lasts 12-18 months, which is much faster than traditional braces. Remove the aligners for special occasions, eating a meal, and cleaning your teeth. Perhaps the greatest advantage Invisalign holds over metal bracket-and-wire braces is that its clear aligners are virtually invisible. This means nobody will know you are wearing them, except you and the dentist.
Candidates for Invisalign
Braces are no longer just for teenagers. In fact, Dr. Dabestani has many adult patients undergoing Invisalign treatment. Many of these patients wore traditional braces in their teenage years, but their teeth have since moved out of alignment. Invisalign addresses problems such as overbites, underbites, and wide spaces between the teeth. It is also great for treating some cases of malocclusion, which occurs when the upper and lower teeth don’t fit together well. Malocclusion can cause speech problems, frequent biting of the tongue and inner cheeks, bruxism (teeth grinding), and TMJ disorder.
Invisalign is also a wise option for teenagers. In fact, the makers of Invisalign have designed a special program just for teens. With Invisalign Teen, your child will enjoy the same benefits as the adult program, with a few unique additions geared towards helping them stay on track with treatment goals. Each Invisalign Teen aligner has a blue dot that fades as your child wears it. If the blue dot does not fade, you will know that your child is not in compliance with his or her treatment.
In addition, the program includes six free replacement aligners. This means, if Tommy takes his aligners out to eat lunch, then accidentally throws them away with his trash, or Brenda takes hers out for softball practice and leaves them in the locker room, all you need to do is call our office, and we can order you a replacement right away.
The Invisalign Treatment Process
As with most dental treatments, the process for Invisalign starts with a consultation with Dr. Dabestani. The doctor will discuss Invisalign with you and answer your questions. Together, you and the doctor will decide if Invisalign treatment is the right choice for you or your teen. Once you are in agreement, a second appointment will be scheduled.
The second appointment is where the excitement begins. First, the doctor will take digital images of your mouth and feed them into the Invisalign software. A custom-designed treatment plan will indicate how many sets of aligners you will need to wear and how long your treatment should last. Most patients wear aligners for 12-18 months, but treatment length may vary from case to case.
Dr. Dabestani will forward your treatment plan to an Invisalign lab, where all of your aligners will be manufactured. When the aligners are delivered to our office, you will return for a third visit. At this time, the doctor will give you your first few sets of aligners, along with instructions for their use and care. Over the course of your treatment, you will wear 20-30 sets of aligners. Each should be used for two weeks, worn 20-22 hours each day. The aligners should only be taken out for meals and when cleaning your teeth. Adherence to these parameters is key to your treatment, as failure to wear the retainers for the required 20-22 hours each day may result in a longer period of treatment.
Once treatment starts, you will only be required to visit our office every six weeks for a quick checkup and to pick up your next few sets of aligners. Upon successful completion of your treatment, Dr. Dabestani will provide you with a retainer to help keep your newly straightened teeth in perfect alignment.
